The Potter's Hand is a non-profit organization dedicated to uplifting underprivileged communities. Founded on the principles of compassion and empowerment, we strive to provide essential resources, education, and support to those who need it most.
Our mission is to be the extended hand of hope, transforming lives through sustainable programs that address poverty, hunger, and education disparities. With every initiative, we focus on creating lasting impact by empowering individuals to become self-reliant and thrive in their environments.
To empower vulnerable young girls through mental health support, sexual health education, and economic opportunities, providing them with safe spaces, resources, and mentorship to break cycles of poverty and inequality.
A world where every young girl has knowledge, confidence, and resources to make informed decisions about her health, well-being and future
The Potter’s Hand was born out of a deep desire to do more for those in need. Our founder began her journey as part of a ministry feeding homeless people at the Union Buildings. But handing out food wasn’t enough—she wanted to reunite them with their families, help them get identification documents, find jobs, and, for the youngest, return to school. Just as her impact was growing, she was forced to move back to Soweto, where she was confronted with an entirely different crisis—a pandemic of young girls dropping out of school, contracting HIV and STIs, experiencing unwanted pregnancies, and falling victim to a grooming culture where older men preyed on their poverty and vulnerability. Recognizing the urgent need, she stepped in—offering sexual and reproductive health education, mental health support, referrals to healthcare facilities, and safe spaces for young girls to learn and heal. With her background as an HAST specialist (HIV, AIDS, STI, and TB), a facilitator for the Dreams Program, and a community educator, the transition was natural. Today, The Potter’s Hand stands as a beacon of hope, ensuring that no young girl has to face these challenges alone. Through our Tiko Program and drop-in center initiative, we continue to equip, educate, and empower girls to take control of their futures.
